Taking private music lessons can be a fun and rewarding experience for students of all ages and abilities. Whether a student needs help with their current music or is looking for an extra challenge, taking lessons can help accomplish these goals.
Individual attention: Private lessons focus on the individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Playing the flute is a multi-sensory, complex activity requiring learning by ear, eye, touch, and intellectual understanding. Each student combines these elements differently. Private lessons can follow a tailor made plan developed for each student.
Skills development: Private attention is needed to help a flutist achieve good tone production, proper hand and body position, and other techniques unique to the flute such as trills and vibrato.
Appropriate pace: Private lessons go at the student's learning pace, stopping whenever necessary to review concepts, repeat material, or explore a topic the student shows an interest in.
Progress: Progress of a music student is almost always faster in a private lesson.
Why Flute Lessons With Erika?
I greatly enjoy working with flutists one-on-one, and believe the student and teacher have a lot to offer each other during music lessons. I like to provide a fun and encouraging atmosphere during the lesson time as learning an instrument is a wonderful and rewarding opportunity that can last a lifetime.
Experience: I have taught flute lessons for over ten years. My students have ranged in ages from 10 years old to adult, with abilities from beginning to advanced. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and have worked towards my Master's in flute performance. Along with extensive private study myself, I have played in numerous music ensembles including concert bands, orchestras, chamber groups, musicals and operas in the midwest and pacific northwest. I have also been a judge for local solo and ensemble festivals and scholarship competitions.
Personalized Attention: No two students are alike, and I tailor lessons to each individual's specific needs. I take the time to share information and find the appropriate materials that will be fun and help you accomplish your musical goals. I support my students as much as I can by attending solo and ensemble festivals, concerts, and other performances. Communicating with parents about their child's musical progress and their involvement with lessons is also important to me.
Fun!: I strive to create a fun and positive environment during the lesson time. I will not only help you create beautiful flute music - I will make you laugh, too!
