Erika Tomten is a freelance flute and piccolo player,
private music instructor, and visual artist in Eau Claire,
Wisconsin. Erika has been an Instructor of Flute at
Concordia College's Conservatory of Music in Moorhead,
Minnesota and has maintained a private studio for over
10 years.
A native of Minnesota, Erika received her BA in Music
and Studio Art from Concordia College in Moorhead, and
has worked toward her MM in Flute Performance at the
University of Minnesota. Her flute teachers include Julia
Bogorad-Kogan (St. Paul Chamber Orchestra), Adam
Kuenzel (Minnesota Orchestra), Gro Sandvik (Bergen
Philharmonic), Lisa Patterson (Trinity Christian College
and South Suburban College), and Kay Sahlin (St. Olaf
College).

Erika has performed as a soloist with the North Cascades Concert Band, the Missoula
Concert Band, the Concordia College Band and the Concordia College Orchestra. She has
also performed in master classes, recitals, theater productions and numerous band,
orchestra and chamber ensembles throughout the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Since
living in Eau Claire, Erika has performed with the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra, The
Chippewa Valley Symphony, and for the Chippewa Valley Theater Guild.
Along with performing, Erika maintains a private studio and works with flute students as an
assistant music teacher in the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls school districts. She has
acted as an adjudicator at solo and ensemble festivals, Concordia College, and for the Upper
Midwest Flute Association. Erika is one of the instructors at FluteWild! Camp, a summer
camp for young flutists located in Eau Claire, WI. Her professional affiliations include the
National Flute Association and the Upper Midwest Flute Association.
Erika is also a visual artist who makes handmade cards for her greeting card line
Tomten Cards, and has created a children's book based on the music of Leroy Anderson.
Erika's husband, Peter Haberman, is the Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin -
Eau Claire and the Director of the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony. They have a daughter
who also loves music.
